Insurance & Rates FAQ

Below are answers to the most common questions about paying for therapy and using insurance for mental health services.

Do you accept insurance for therapy?

In this time, we talk about why you are seeking therapy, what you are looking for in a therapist and next steps should you feel we are a match! I will answer questions you may have. We briefly then collect some basic information to initiate our therapeutic journey.

What if my insurance plan isn't on your accepted list?

No problem — DLG Therapy, LLC can provide you with a superbill, which is a detailed receipt of your therapy sessions, that you can submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Many insurance plans reimburse a portion of the cost even when a therapist is out-of-network, so it's worth checking your out-of-network mental health benefits.

What is a superbill for therapy?

A superbill is a document DLG Therapy, LLC provides at the end of the month that includes the information your insurance company needs to process an out-of-network reimbursement claim, including the date of service, diagnosis code, procedure code, and session fee. You submit the superbill directly to your insurance company; DLG Therapy, LLC does not bill them on your behalf in this case.

Will using insurance for therapy affect my privacy?

Using insurance for therapy means a mental health diagnosis and some session information become part of your insurance claim records, since this is required for reimbursement. If keeping your therapy records outside of insurance is important to you, paying out-of-pocket for therapy is an option worth considering. Diana is happy to talk through what makes the most sense for your situation.

Are there downsides to using insurance for therapy?

Using insurance can make therapy more affordable, but there are a few trade-offs worth knowing before deciding:

  • A mental health diagnosis is required. Insurance companies require a diagnosis to justify coverage, and that diagnosis becomes part of your permanent medical record. This can matter for things like future life insurance applications, security clearances, or custody proceedings.
  • Your insurer can access session information. Insurance companies can request treatment details, such as diagnosis, dates of service, and sometimes clinical notes, to justify continued coverage.
  • Coverage isn't guaranteed to last. Some insurance plans limit the number of therapy sessions covered per year or require ongoing proof that treatment is "medically necessary," which can affect how long or how often you're able to meet with your therapist.
  • Less flexibility in treatment approach. Insurance requirements can influence the type of treatment or session frequency that's covered, which may not always align with what's clinically best for you.
  • Claims can be denied or delayed. Even in-network insurance claims are occasionally denied or take time to process, which can create unexpected costs or confusion.

None of this means insurance is a bad choice for therapy — for many people, the cost savings are well worth it. We just want you to have a clear picture so you can decide what's right for you. If privacy or flexibility is a top priority, paying out-of-pocket for therapy is worth considering, and Diana is happy to talk through that option.

What are your therapy session rates?

Individual therapy sessions are $175 for a 50-minute session. The intake session is $185. If you're using insurance, your actual out-of-pocket cost will depend on your specific plan and benefits.

What is your cancellation policy?

DLG Therapy, LLC requires 24 hours’ notice for cancellations. Late cancellations or no-shows will be charged a fee, which is not billable to insurance.
